The following add-ins could not be started MonoDevelop.GnomePlatform

Installing MonoDevelop in OpenSUSE 12.2 from its repository was very easy. When running it for the first time though I got the message:
The following add-ins could not be started:
The root of the trace shows
MonoDevelop.GnomePlatform,2.8
A quick search shows that MonoDevelop depends on libgnomeui. This should have been part of dependencies when installing the application but well....

Below is the screen shot of the error message.

Thanks for the info. Have you reported the missing RPM dependency as an opensuse bug?

@Rob: I haven't reported this to openSUSE.

Thank you! I stumbled over this problem yesterday and opened a bug for the missing dependency

I can't believe this is still a thing.

It is still a thing. However I got this error when trying to install it on Ubuntu.
Unable to locate package libgnomeui

Techno Scavenger said...

@Ishan, what version of Ubuntu are you using? The latest versions should have this fixed (15.04 and 15.10 should be OK).

Ishan said...

I am using Ubuntu Gnome 15.04. libgnomeui is not available via apt-get instead libgnomeui-0 is available and installing that doesn't solves the issue. I had to install gnome-sharp2 to finally solve the problem.

Interesting... I just tried it on Ubuntu 15.04 netinstall + LXDE, works as expected.

Ok, just tried Ubuntu 15.04 netinstall + Ubuntu GNOME, works as well.

The same error in Elementary OS Loki (Ubuntu 16.04 based) but another solution: install gnome-sharp2 package solved it.
